Tips for Drywall Corner Repair

How to Repair Drywall Inside Corners

When taking on a DIY drywall corner repair job, make sure that you have all the right safety gear before you begin the repair job. For minor corner cracks, you can apply a thin bead of latex or silicone caulk over the crack, just make sure that you can paint over this, so the caulk needs to be paintable. Once you have applied the caulk, smooth is out using your finger into the corner.

When dealing with larger cracks, you will need to cut through the pre-existing seam and trim any loose drywall or tape away. Cut a piece of paper tape to the same size and hold it along the crease in the middle. Then you are ready to apply joint compound to the corner.

Apply the new piece of tape using your joint knife and smooth it into place. Allow this to completely dry. Once it is dry, apply the compound to one corner. Once the first side has dried, do the same to the other corner.

Leave this to cure as per the manufacturer’s instructions, then sand and paint as needed.

Inside corner cracks are surprisingly easy to repair. All you will need are a few basic supplies and some patience. Here is what you will need to make the repair:
